Coronavirus
The panic over COVID-19 has brought out the worst in
people. People are angry at each other
for going out to stores buying things someone doesn’t think they need. Some of the folks on Facebook have been angry
about what others are doing since he day Corona became a thing. Then there’s the whole toilet paper, bread,
milk, and meat thing. I don’t know about
where you live, but where I live, greed cleaned out every grocery store in
three counties. I wonder how many people
had to throw away a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk because it ruined before
they could consume it. Some people had
to go without while staying at home.
Quarantine
I’ve been at home for over three weeks. I go to the store when needed, and sometimes
when I could have done without. I don’t mind
working from home, because I’m introverted and a little anti-social. I haven’t
been to a restaurant in about a month, not even fast food because I don’t know
who may have corona’d on what. I miss
it. I don’t mean I’m missing meals, because
I’ve eaten plenty. (By “plenty” I mean
too much.)
Some states have lawmakers who issued ludicrous mandates for
their states, including not being able to buy anything deemed
non-essential. Arts and crafts, games, and
clothing are off the proverbial table.
And…seeds. You know, because
during a quarantine/pandemic, growing your own food is non-essential. It’s so ridiculous it’s comical. (If it’s not happening to you, that is.) I wondered how long it would be before
people would begin to rebel. If we can
judge by Michigan, yesterday was the day.
I wonder what took them so long?
Michigan's governor, Gretchen Whitmer, tut-tutted the protestors and placed
blame on the DeVos family. (Betsy DeVos is the Secretary of Education.)
Politics
I noticed that the Michigan protestors were conservatives
and the governor is a democrat. In some
of the states with the most virus cases and the most restrictive stay-at-home
orders, the governors are democrat. Does
it ever cross your mind that when this is all over lawmakers are going to see
how easy it is to control the American people?
I understand COVID-19 is a scary thing, but so is the flu, and it kills
just as many (actually as it stands right now, more) Americans than the coronavirus.
Come October when the flu season begins
to rear its ugly head, what if certain lawmakers decided to shut down the
economy again? Control and power in the
wrong hands is a potently bad thing. Who
would have thought it could go this far in 2020? People have lost jobs, businesses have shut
down permanently, the stock market is on a rollercoaster as unpredictable as my
diet, and when this is over, we will adapt to new normal. The way things were on January 1, 2020 will
not be the same on January 1, 2021. Some
things will be the same. I think Donald
Trump will have won another election.
More Politics
I’m surprised but not all that surprised that Joe Biden is
the presumptive Democratic nominee. Some
of the ones I thought would be real contenders were out pretty early, Kamala
Harris was my biggest surprise. On the
other end, I was surprised Elizabeth Warren went as far as she did. I didn’t think the DNC would let Bernie get
the nomination, and of course, they didn’t.
I really won’t be surprised if the DNC pulls out a last-minute
candidate. Maybe Chelsea Clinton or Stacey
Abroms. Maxine Waters and Donald Trump in a debate would be funny to
watch.
Television’s Supernanny
I don’t watch a lot of TV.
For nearly two years, we haven’t even had Cable TV in the house, but we
do have the internet, so I’m really not missing much. I happened upon a show
called Supernanny. I’m sure you already
know about Jo Frost, the English nanny who filmed shows in America ten or so years
ago. Anyway, this really isn’t about Jo Frost. It’s about these parents! How do they let their kids get to the point
where they are slapping, kicking, biting, and cussing them…and they don’t do
anything about it until Jo gets there? “I
just don’t know what to do! Jo please
come help me!” (Some of the parents
were still wiping their kids’ butts at 6 and 7 years old.) I’m pretty sure that the first time my child
hit, kicked, or cussed me, they’d think twice before doing it again, and think
once more before sitting down for a while.
I just don’t get it. It must be
a thing, though, because she was able to do 8 seasons of Supernanny in America,
and I hear that Lifetime is bringing her back this year. I
would like a follow up on some of the kids/parents 10 years later. I don’t imagine updates are what Lifetime
will be doing with Supernanny.
And that is all, Folks!
Stay Safe!
I still don't get the need for the toilet paper and paper products (except for Kleenex maybe) since it is a respiratory illness. People panicked and they just bought everything and anything they could get their hands on. One thing I hope grocery stores do in the future is put into effect a policy of limits of supplies when something is declared a pandemic. The minute Covid 19 became listed as a pandemic that is when things started going crazy.
ReplyDeleteI blame the media 100% for all the panic and misinformation. I read an article that said this crisis is the first pandemic social media has handled and boy in my opinion they handled it wrong. The article did say that a lot of information social media posted was misinformation, thus creating more panic.
Hubby is usually prepared for emergencies/crises like this but this caught us by surprise, not that we didn't have enough of the stuff to begin with. But when we analyzed this we came to the conclusion that we were logical about this. We knew it was a crisis but we didn't play into the media creating it to be the crisis it was and therefore when the rest of the world panicked we didn't see a need to. Now we have come to the conclusion that the minute we hear a word spread in the media a lot like they were talking about the Coronavirus back in December, that's when it is time to start thinking of stock piling some stuff (not that we want to be hoarders, we just want to be better prepared).
I am really mad at the media for their misrepresentation of so much. Don't get me wrong. This is serious but the flu is serious and you are right more people have died from the flu than this.
I support those who say open up the country again and allow herd immunity to occur. Those at risk were already staying home before this became a pandemic. Those will continue to stay at home.
But we need to do something soon because people are getting antsy and that scares me more than the actual virus does. Michigan is a prime example of what may happen down the road.
Stay safe and sane!
